diy {wire fence frame}
I love organization that is both functional and beautiful. I had been looking for a way to store all the hair clips that I make for Talia (yes, I make every one!) when I came across this project over at Under The Sycamore. I made my own version with a frame I found at a thrift store priced at $3.99, the frames just happened to be 50% off that day so I actually scored it for only $1.99! I don't have a before picture of the frame (because I was too excited to get started and forgot.) Let's just say it was in pretty bad shape but it was nothing a little spray paint couldn't fix. I love the finished product and it was so simple and inexpensive to do!
I decided to make another one to store some of my earrings and this time I remembered to take pictures :) As you can see the frame was priced at 1.98 but I got it during another 50% off sale so I picked it up for a mere 99 cents.
I removed the glass and backing and then cut a piece of wire to the size of my frame
Then I used a staple gun to secure the wire to the back of the frame
Easy right? The frame was pretty plain so I added some embellishments to dress it up a bit
Using Mod Podge I applied some crocheted lace trim and a bow I had salvaged from a pair of shoes that my dog had accidentally mistaken for an afternoon snack. I was going to attach the bow with a glue gun but then decided to use velcro sticky dots instead so that I could easily swap it for something else if I wanted to.
Ta da! So simple and lovely and since I already had all the supplies on hand this charming little earring holder only cost me 99 cents to make!
Let's look again at the frame before... and after! Love it :)

ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love something that's pretty and functional
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! Where were you able to find the wire screen? I've been looking at large name hardware stores (Menard's, Home Depot) and they only sell large rolls.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your lovely comments!
ReplyDelete@anonymous I got a 24in x 5ft roll for about 8 bucks at Home Depot. That was the smallest roll they had. It's more than enough if you're just making one frame but the extra is good to have on hand if you want to make more as gifts or for yourself :)
I need to make myself a hundred of these
ReplyDeleteYou should do a post on the cute hairclips!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anonymous said, I would really love to know how you make those super adorable hair clips for such fine hair. Your stuff is incredible by the way. Thanks so much or sharing,

Hey Sarah! I LOVE this idea and I am SO excited to try it to hang up all my earrings. I just have a two quick questions on how you did it. Where did you buy your fencing for the frame? Oh and once you spray painted the frame did you add any "shine" or just leave it? It looks GREAT and I am so glad to be following your blog!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the tutorial! I bought the fencing in a roll at Home Depot. For the spray painted frame I think I just left it but I have made others and put on a coat of acrylic coating spray paint. So it's up to you :)
Deletethat's really nice !!! thank you Sarah!! :D
ReplyDeleteNice! I've used old window/door screens and needlepoint plastic screens: http://analyticalartist.blogspot.com/2012/08/earring-holder.html
ReplyDeleteSarah, I have just discovered you! I Love the easy peasy way you make stuff, very creative!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all your work with us...only very small thing...any chance you could make the font larger? Please? Just for us people who have trouble seeing small grey fonts....Whatever happened to black font? lol !!
Also, I so admire your photography.......nice....I am jealous! I just cannot seem to get a camera to work for me. Being financially challenged doesn't help, either, in the camera business...
Love Your work
